Summary: In the article, "Visual Discourse Analysis" by Peggy Albers, she states how important a visual text can be then how people really think it is. Many people ignore the visual and don't really give that much attention but in reality, visual texts are use as an interpretation of a text. Visual text always leave behind a powerful meaning for the viewers to see and realize. By knowing the different types of texts, people will be able to have the will to be able to express their ideas of what they know through the different range of media. Just goes to show that their is a deeper meaning with visual texts then what is expected.
3 Quotes:
- "While visual texts in ELA classes are a commonplace, they continue to be superficially or ignored...." This is something that I can relate as my time in high school, many of my English teachers would hand out visual texts and most of the students didn't really put the effort into trying to dig deeper for the meaning.
- "The text creates the context as much as context creates the text." This is basically saying that without text, there isn't a context which shows the importance of text and how it helps build context.
- "I believe there is more to the visual text then meets the eye." Many images have a message whether it's a picture with words or just a picture. By analyzing the image, the person will be able to dig deeper and express their opinion of what they believe it means.
Questions:
- How is their a better way to remember the term intertextuality, and it's meaning to help students with texts?
- Why is art and visual texts always ignored by many?
