Annotation #4
Summary: In the article titled, "From Inquiry on Revision vs. Editing" we were informed of what the difference is between revision and editing. We are given a process of how editing and revisions should look like. We are also given the process of how peer editing should look when looking over an essay for someone else. But, when we read over these essay's, we want to be able to understand what the author is explaining in his letter and trying to realize what style of writing that the author goes for. Once all this is done, the author needs to look over the comments and focus more on grammar mistakes or using more transition words. All these steps can help the writer improve on both their writing skills and paper.
Quotes:
1. "Here, too, you want to help readers focus on your main concerns, which you should explain in a cover letter." (283) You need to be able to guide your reader into a certain topic and not discuss about other things if you want to catch their attention.
2. "Don't just jump in and start telling the writer what he or she should be doing in the paper." (280) In order to help a writer, try to discuss the pros of their paper and afterwards give them advice on what you think can help improve their paper.
3. "A peer group can also ask questions to help a writer set new goals." (279) The point of peer editing is to not only write down comments, but to help the writer come up with new ideas of what to write on their paper in which they feel is necessary.
Questions:
1. How can we as the editors find a way to help improve our editing skills to make the author's paper more stronger?
2. How can the writer improve on their thesis statement?
