Summary: In the book titled "The Complete Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi, we are introduced to the main protagonist who is the author herself. Marjane Satrapi is growing up during the Iranian Revolution in which her parents always attend protest. Marjane looks up to her parents and want to join them in protesting the revolution, but her parents feel it is unsafe because what Marjane doesn't realize, is that these protest are really violent in which people are killed. We later learn that Marjane wanted to go the United States to attend a University but her dream was crushed after her father read on a newspaper about fundamentalist students taking Americans hostage. Not only was it for educational purposes to go to the U.S., but also to see her friend Kaveh. At the end of The Jewels chapter we realize that Mali's home has been destroyed and the only thing they had were jewels. They lived with Marjane for a week until they can sell those jewels in order to start over again. A lot has gone down in these few chapters in which Marjane is reading the world little by little.
